Ally Ally In Come Free, named for the children's game from days gone by, will allow EVERYONE entrance to the first floor of the school. Historic boardwalks wrapped the school to the south and to the north, allowing students and teachers to walk to the two 8-holer outhouses at the back (west side) of the school. At some point those boardwalks were destroyed, maybe when the out houses were no longer needed. The south boardwalk and the front boardwalk will look as they did years ago. The north boardwalk will elevate slowly to a landing on the NE corner of the building and then to another landing at the new doorway on the north wall of the gymnasium (NW room). This wheelchair ramp allows everyone entrance to the school on the first floor: people with trouble walking, people in wheelchairs, families with strollers...everyone!
Oregon Cultural Trust and the Ford Family Foundation have granted monies to help with this project. But, even with those grants amounting to $21944, the FSEC is short on funds for the materials, design work, building and installation of the wheelchair ramp. Part of this project will be done by volunteers, but a good portion of it needs to be professionally done. The design work has been completed and is currently with a fabricator awaiting a bid estimate for materials, fabrication and installation..
